Lalovavi

Lalovavi

Opera performance at Cincinnati Opera.

Lalovavi is an Afrofuturist opera that takes audiences 400 years into the future to a reimagined Atlanta called Atlas. The story centers on Persephone, the youngest daughter of Atlas's ruler, who possesses a rare version of the Syndica gene—one that grants immortality. When her family discovers this gift, they betray her, forcing Persephone to escape and begin an extraordinary journey of self-discovery where she uncovers hidden truths about her past and learns the real meaning of love and personal power. This Cincinnati Opera production is performed in English and Tut, with English lyrics and translations projected throughout. The performance runs about three hours with one intermission, making it a substantial but manageable outing for families with older children and teens. Tickets range from $25 to $267 depending on seating. Be aware that the show includes brief, nongraphic theatrical depictions of violence. If your family enjoys imaginative storytelling, science fiction themes, and live opera, this ambitious production offers a fresh take on familiar mythological elements.
